The question is, "Why?"

The current numbers on the BeCounted.com poll of the Dec 13th Debate in Iowa show that less than 10% of those who watched the debate thought GW Bush was the winner. On a follow-up question however, 60% thought he would end up as the Republican Party's nominee. Why is that? Why do we not expect our choice to be nominated? Is this a republic or is it a nation run by a political machine?

When I was a child our media used to mock the Soviet political system and expose their fake elections. They were quick to point out that the Communist Party handpicked their "candidates" making the whole election process a farce. If the candidates we see on our ballots are not our choice, how is our present election process different than the Soviet system in the depths of its corruption? It isn't.

As long as the American people are willing to accept the manipulation of the political process by big money and power-hungry political machinery, we will be under the same type of repression that characterized the old Soviet Union.

Much was made during the 50's and 60's of the beaten-down attitude of the Soviet people. They knew that the system was repressive and held no regard for their wishes, but they didn't see anything that they could do about it. The images that came across our TV screens were those of a people drowning in apathy. The system was wrong, but what could they do?

The fact that Americans expect their wishes to be ignored concerning who is presented as their candidate, shows that we are in the same state of apathy that controlled the Soviet Union a generation ago. We have more on our store shelves and more freedom to travel, but our political system is just as unresponsive as theirs was, and our public media is just as manipulative. So the question comes again, "What can be done?"

The Answer is, "Make yourself heard."

Unlike the Soviets, you have a right to speak your mind. Use it.

Start with the Republican National Committee. They have a survey and give you a chance to comment on the nomination process at http://www.rnc.org/NominationSurvey.asp . It will only take about 3 or 4 minutes to thoughtfully answer their survey.

If you would rather skip the survey, you can e-mail the RNC through this page: http://www.rnc.org/ContactUs.asp .

You can by-pass the contact page and send mail to info@rnc.org or directly to Jim Nicholson at chairman@rnc.org or Patricia Harrison at co-chairman@rnc.org

Go to http://www.vote.com and http://www.becounted.com and participate in the polls there. The results of these polls are forwarded to the right places. If the numbers are large enough because people are speaking their minds, someone will have to listen.

The problems that plague our political system will not be addressed until the people of this country make it painfully clear to the political bosses that we are aware of the problems and that we want them fixed.

Another thing that people must do to see any changes in the current system is complain to the media that think it is the media's duty to control the flow of information to the public. News broadcasts are no longer for the purpose of educating the people, but for indoctrinating them. The obvious liberal bias in public media is planned, purposeful manipulation, and we should not stand for it. There has been no coverage of conservative issues during the Republican debates. Not a single quote from Alan Keyes on the issues has been reported even though most people watching the debates said he was the most articulate and best informed of the participants.

Speak out. Tell them it is wrong and you have seen through their bias. Tell them you are taking your business elsewhere and do it. Be firm and "to the point."

Friends don't let friends be liberals.

Talk politics with your friends. I know politics can be devisive, but allowing socialism and globalism to take over this country will not produce peace and harmony either. Let people know you are conservative and why. There is no such thing as a "closet conservative". Anyone claiming the title is actually a liberal compromiser that doesn't want to admit it.

If you know how you feel but aren't informed enough to discuss the issues, I invite you to visit the Forbes and Keyes web sites and read through their policy statements. Both men are conservative and outline clearly the strong conservative values that made this nation strong. Sign up for their e-mail lists while at their pages and listen to them when they are on TV and the radio.

Read the writings of the founding fathers, especially the Federalist Papers. At the time of the writing of our Constitution, there was much discussion of what it meant. Conservative political thought requires holding to the intended application of the Constitution.

Reading these writings will arm you against the socialistic and globalistic doctrines of the liberal political system.

Final Thoughts

The political process in this country is in need of repair. It was designed at a time when communication was limited and men were honorable. It has become unresponsive to the will of the people and it must be changed. But the system will not be changed until YOU and I cause the change. Let's get involved. It is our government and ultimately, we are responsible for it, whether it is right or wrong.
