The numbers from Vote.com
| Alan Keyes | (43%) |
| George W. Bush | (39%) |
| John McCain | (11%) |
| Steve Forbes | (3%) |
| Orrin Hatch | (2%) |
| Gary Bauer | (1%) |
With those numbers fresh in your mind, go back and reread the media accounts of the debate. You will find quotes from exchanges between Bush and McCain and Bush and Bauer. There are no quotes from Alan Keyes or Steve Forbes in any media release on the debate that I have been able to find. The media are clearly manipulating those that have been duped into trusting them as an independent news source, when they are actually a tool of the liberal politicians.
After the opening primaries the field will narrow considerably. Bauer and Hatch will have to admit that they do not have the following or resources to fight to the end. If Steve Forbes can't come up with a personality for the camera he is also doomed. The question is this: Will Alan Keyes also have to drop by the wayside, even though about half of the people hitting the polls prefer him over both Bush and McCain? If the media have their way, he will. The media wants a 2 man race, but they want 2 liberals. That way they can't lose. I want a 2 man race, but I want Keyes to take Bush on man to man. That will put the issues on the table and show what true conservatism really is.
This was an interesting debate. I really want to believe that George W. Bush is for real. I hope he is pro-life. If he is not, he's gone as far as my support. I was however impressed with the fact that he made it clear that he had trusted Jesus Christ as his saviour. I have never heard any politician say this before. Is this a play on words or was he sincere?
I have not made up my mind yet. Thanks for the information. God bless!

I agree, I hope he is for real, but there are many indicators that he isn't.
His policy statement on abortion simply says that he is "pro-life with the exceptions of rape, incest and the life of the mother" That is sooooo vague. It can be manipulated to mean just about anything you want it to mean. I feel a lot better supporting a candidate whose statement on abortion includes the fact that God is the Author of life and that life begins at conception. Both Forbes and Keyes have those statements in writing and have stated them openly.
The fact that neither Bush or McCain will commit to appointment of pro-life running-mates, judges or cabinet members is also a serious warning. Their pro-life commitment can't be in line with mine if they are not committed to restoring the protection of life liberty and the pursuit of happiness to all Americans, including the yet unborn.
Neither Bush nor McCain have said anything about reversing Roe vs. Wade. Both Forbes and Keyes have made that pledge.
Then there is the icing on the cake.... The Texas highway that Gov. Bush just named after a Dr, whose only claim to fame was that he was an abortionist. This is about as Clintonesque as it gets. Speaking loudly and firmly about one thing and doing the exact opposite.
I would love to believe that Bush is honest and supportive of the anti-abortion stance, because I believe the political machine will nominate him as the Republican candidate, but the evidence to support that belief is not there.

PS Jimmy Carter also claimed to be a "born-again Christian" and used the phrase many times during his campaign. Bill Clinton also made the claim, but after Carter not many people believed Clinton.
The results of the poll at the BeCounted.com web site following the Dec 7th debate tells a sad story about the US political process. Is our government really "of the people" and "by the people"? Most of "the people" don't think so.
The first poll clearly shows who the people think should be the next Republican candidate, the second shows who they think the next candidate will be.
Commentary on why this is happening will be in the next TCN
| From Dec 7th Debate - BeCounted.com | |
|---|---|
| Total Votes = 680 | |
| Who do you feel won yesterday's Republican party presidential debate in Arizona? | |
| 1.9% | Gary Bauer |
| 15.1% | George W. Bush |
| 4.4% | Steve Forbes |
| 0.3% | Orrin Hatch |
| 32.9% | Alan Keyes |
| 6.8% | John McCain |
| 4.3% | None of the above |
| 34.3% | I didn't watch the debate |
Half of those who watched the debates thought that Alan Keyes was a clear winner. But.....
| Total Votes = 680 | |
| Who do you believe will win the Republican party nomination for President? | |
| 1.0% | Gary Bauer |
| 68.8% | George W. Bush |
| 4.7% | Steve Forbes |
| 0.3% | Orrin Hatch |
| 12.2% | Alan Keyes |
| 10.9% | John McCain |
| 2.1% | None of the above |
Even if all of those who did not watch the debate favored Bush that still only amounts to 49%. Why did 20% of the voters think Keyes was the winner, but GW Bush will get the nomination? In the next TCN.
Next whine. "There are probably only 5 or 10 respondents so the polls are meaningless." Allow me to present another poll as the answer to that suspicion.
From the liberal MSNBC website, with 12,756 respondents.
Visitors were asked to rate each of the candidates from 1 to 5 on matters such as command of the issues, can get things done, likeable, cares about normal people, presentation and presidential qualities.
| Alan Keyes | 3.49 |
| John McCain | 3.45 |
| George W. Bush | 3.16 |
| Orrin Hatch | 2.99 |
| Steve Forbes | 2.76 |
| Gary Bauer | 2.69 |
