In the 107th session of Congress, the American Conservative Union supported a bill signed into law by President George W. Bush that allowed airline pilots to carry firearms on passenger aircraft. The bill passed with broad bipartisan support and granted commercial passenger pilots the ability to more effectively defend their cockpits and control their aircrafts in case of a terrorist attack.
Kentucky Senator Jim Bunning has introduced a bill that would allow cargo pilots to defend themselves and their aircraft with the same vigilance that the government affords pilots of passenger aircraft. S. 516: The Arming Cargo Pilots Against Terrorism Act would make an additional 12,000 cargo pilots eligible to defend the cockpit and protect Americans from another air-to-land airplane attack.
Why arm cargo pilots?
The fact of the matter is that cargo planes carry just as much fuel as commercial airliners--the 747 Freighter aircraft is the largest commercial airplane in use--making cargo aircraft just as dangerous as passenger aircraft in the event of a terrorist hijacking. Cargo planes themselves, and the individuals they transport, are not subject to current screening standards applied to passenger aircraft.
Also, Air Marshals are not present on cargo flights and the same hijack-risk-level exists whether we're talking about passenger aircrafts or cargo aircrafts.
Under S. 516, cargo pilots would be made eligible to carry their licensed firearm only after undergoing and passing appropriate background checks, screening processes, and firearm training: the same standard the law applies toward pilots of passenger aircraft.
The government was acting responsibly when it allowed passenger aircraft pilots to carry firearms as part of our ongoing effort to prevent another tragedy like September 11th. Write your two Senators and urge them to support and vote in favor of S. 516: The Arming Cargo Pilots Against Terrorism Act: a bill that would protect Americans--in the air and on the ground--from terrorist acts involving all types of commercial aircraft.
Whether or not it was constitutionally legal, we have delivered the Iraqi people from the oppressive hand of Saddam Hussein. No longer do they live in constant fear of instant reprisal for whispering a word of dissent about the corrupt politics of the region. The Turks, the Sunnis and the Shiites are all free to practice their own little variations of the Islamic religion… But are the people of Iraq free? Not in the least.
They are still the slaves of the most repressive and violent religion known to man. And if Iran succeeds in manipulating the system to establish a Muslim state in Iraq like the system there, things will go from bad to worse.
The only hope for freedom in Iraq is one that no government will speak of, let alone consider putting into action: flooding the country with Christian missionaries.
Would that produce a "Christian nation"? No, in fact, I'm not sure I can define a "Christian nation". I haven't seen one, or ever even read about one- not one that would line up with the Bible definition of Christian. It would introduce "freedom of religion" which is something that these people have never experienced, or even heard of in their Muslim-controlled part of the world.
Christianity is the only faith system that has any tolerance for other systems. It is the only system that promotes peace about conflict, and the only system where the leader is an example of the believer rather than a lord over the believer. As long as the Muslim "holy men" (read war lords) are in control, there will be no peace in Iraq and no hope of freedom for the Iraqi people. The Quaran and the in-fighting of the various sects of Islam will see to that.
"...It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds..." - Founding Father Samuel Adams
".(Missouri Republican Sen. Jim) Talent suggests there is another way (to break the Democrat filibuster of judicial nominations) if you could change the mindset of his caucus to the point where Republican senators would convince themselves that they could use their power to act. The Talent solution goes like this:
"After a cloture vote is lost for lack of 60 votes, a senator would move to appeal the vote on the grounds that it is unconstitutional. Why unconstitutional? Because the minority is requiring 60 votes for judicial nominations, yet the Constitution is very clear about when super-majorities are required. Judges isn't one of them.
"The parliamentarian would most likely rule the motion out of order. His ruling would be appealed and if all 51 Republican Senators held together, his ruling would be overridden. Thus having taken back control of the process, the Senate Majority Leader would move to have the pending nominations considered, which would only need a simple majority vote for approval and which could be readily obtained. The GOP would have taken back control of the process and would be confirming the best of President Bush's nominees."
[ Editorial Comment ] Wouldn't that burn a few Senators from both sides of the aisle? They certainly aren't used to being held to Constitutional restraints or even to the rules they create. The really sad part is that even though this is a viable solution, there isn't a senator with enough backbone to stand up and speak out… Very sad indeed.
"We're preparing for the first of our Constitutional Seminars - to be held on May 24th, in Jacksonville, Florida. We've got the auditorium on the Second Floor of the Public Library right downtown reserved, and it should be an excellent day of teaching and discussing Constitutional issues. Quite a few folks have indicated that they are interested in learning - and we're going to put the information out there for them.
There will be no charge for admission, or anything else at the seminar - FCF is footing the bill entirely, and hopefully that will convince more folks to get involved. We won't be selling a thing, but we will be passing out flyers, and hopefully some pamphlets about the Constitution. That is in doubt at this point, but we're still hoping.
I'll try to get some more info out to you shortly."

"Gen. Tommy Franks, who valiantly led American troops to victory in Baghdad, is now the target of a lynching by a few Iraqis. Iraqi civilians are currently lodging a criminal complaint in a Belgian court against the general and other U.S. officials, accusing them of war crimes. . . . The complaint is an example of how dangerous it is for the United States to be at the mercy of a foreign court."

The Entertainers of 2003 have been in all of the news media lately. It seems newspapers, television and radio networks have been more than ready to put them and their message before the public.
I would like to remind the people of what the entertainers of 1943 were doing, (60 years ago). Most of these brave men have since passed on.
Alec Guinness (Star Wars) operated a British Royal Navy landing craft on D-Day.
James Doohan ("Scotty" on Star Trek) landed in Normandy with the U.S. Army on D-Day.
Donald Pleasance (The Great Escape) really was a R.A.F. pilot who was shot down, held prisoner and tortured by the Germans.
David Niven was a Sandhurst graduate and Lt. Colonel of the British Commandos in Normandy.
James Stewart flew 20 missions as a B-24 pilot in Europe.
Clark Gable (Mega-Movie Star when war broke out) was a waist gunner flying missions on a B-17 in Europe.
Charlton Heston was an Army Air Corps Sergeant in Kodiak.
Earnest Borgnine was a U.S. Navy Gunners Mate 1935-1945.
Charles Durning was a U.S. Army Ranger at Normandy.
Charles Bronson was a tail gunner in the Army Air Corps.
George C. Scott was a U.S. Marine.
Eddie Albert (Green Acres TV) was awarded a Bronze Star for his heroic action as a U.S. Naval officer aiding Marines at the horrific battle on the island of Tarawa in the Pacific Nov.1943.
Brian Keith served as a Marine rear gunner in several actions against the Japanese on Rabal in the Pacific.
Lee Marvin was a Marine on Saipan when he was wounded.
John Russell was a Marine on Guadalcanal.
Robert Ryan was a U.S. Marine who served with the O.S.S. in Yugoslavia.
Tyrone Power (an established movie star when Pearl Harbor was bombed) joined the Marines, was a pilot flying supplies into and wounded Marines out of Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
Audie Murphy, little guy from Texas, most decorated serviceman of WWII.
There is quite a gap between the heroics and patriotism in 1943 and the cowardly despicable posturing of the Hollywood crowd of today... All of which smacks of sedition and treason.
