"Contemplate the mangled bodies of your countrymen, and then say, 'What should be the reward of such sacrifices?' Bid us and our posterity bow the knee, supplicate the friendship, and plough, and sow, and reap, to glut the avarice of the men who have let loose on us the dogs of war to riot in our blood and hunt us from the face of the earth? If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!" --Samuel Adams
To show those terrorists that we Americans stick together, FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 14 is "Flags Across America." All Americans are asked to display the American flag either in their homes or cars. Let's keep the meaning of UNITED in "United States."
by Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX)
Yesterday, millions of Americans awakened to find the nation at war, attacked by barbarians who targeted innocent civilians. This senseless slaughter of human life was reprehensible, and must be denounced by all civilized peoples. For the moment, we can only share our grief and our condolences with those who lost family and friends.
In our grief, we must remember our responsibilities. Congress has an obligation in this constitutional republic to preserve freedom and provide for national security. Sadly, our security measures were not adequate to prevent yesterday's tragedy. We must be willing to honestly examine our policies, and change those that weaken our national security.
When we retaliate for this horror we have suffered, we must be certain that we punish only those who are guilty. There is an understandable sense of urgency in the nation, a sense that Congress should take action immediately. However, we must not kill innocent civilians in our rush to retaliate against those truly responsible.
Times of tragedy and war naturally bring out strong emotions in all of us. Yet we must be careful to preserve personal liberty and privacy rights in the months ahead. Sometimes the people are only too anxious to sacrifice their constitutional liberties during a crisis, hoping to gain some measure of security. Yet nothing would please the terrorists more than if we willingly gave up some of our cherished liberties because of their actions.
We can all pray for peace and ask for God's guidance during these troubling times. I know that our President, our congressional leaders, and all Americans possess the wisdom and compassion required to resolve this devastating crisis.
The United States is not limited to declaring war only on nations. In 1802, Thomas Jefferson and the Congress of his day formally declared war on the terrorists of that time, the Barbary Pirates. In fact, that's where we get the line, "... to the shores of Tripoli" in the Marine Hymn.
Americans have been attacked in a cowardly act of war by terrorists, who have wrought the most carnage on American soil since the Civil War.
While America can strike back militarily without a formal declaration of war, there are important legal restraints on the extent of our ability to act without an action by Congress declaring the United States to be at war.
Thousands of innocent civilians have been slaughtered. If the United States does not strike back forcefully, terrorists all over the world will declare "Open Season" on Americans here and abroad.
We can't let this happen.
ACTION: Urge the U.S. Congress to adopt a formal declaration of war against the terrorist group(s) responsible, and to make no distinction between the terrorists who committed these acts and those who harbor them.
We urge you to contact your legislators in the way easiest for you. As a matter of convenience, we will send Faxgrams, in your name, to ALL 535 members of Congress. Because of the huge number of Faxgrams, we have to charge $50 just to cover the cost.
Please use the link below to take advantage of this service:

Please understand we are only charging a fee to cover the expense. If you cannot take advantage of this offer, the most important thing is that you contact your legislators in Congress and urge them to adopt a formal declaration of war against these terrorist groups. As always, you can contact your Senators and Representative for FREE at our Contact Center - use this link:

"Some will speculate that the weapons used (to hijack the planes) were firearms, and their answer will be tighter restrictions on airline access and more comprehensive metal detection. They would be badly misguided. The problem is not that weapons were brought on board by terrorists. The problem is that no weapons were allowed to the pilots, stewards or passengers on board; a fact that has been broadly advertised to every terrorist everywhere in the world.
"Rather than attempt the impossible guarantee of no risk, we must facilitate self-defense. Nothing could be more disruptive of airline hijacking than to have armed operators and passengers. Rather than trying to prevent small arms on airliners, we would be better to require them. No airliner should leave the terminal without a minimum of three armed crew members. Tear down all the detectors and welcome all passengers with concealed weapons on board as guardians of our transportation liberties." - Bill Westmiller, national committeeman, Republican Liberty Caucus
TCN Editorial Comment
I am not afraid of any physical or psychological harm terrorists might inflict upon me. I do not see that as the danger we as Americans face at this time. The more serious threat is that those who have been trying for years to steal our freedoms in the name of anti-terrorism now have a powerful tool.
It is important to understand how they came by this tool and be prepared to defend against it.
This week's attack came as a result of having 2 presidents with no backbone and 1 that was plainly anti-American.
Both of the Bushes (at least until this week) have been weak in foreign policy. They seem to think that foreign policy hinges on trade and that if money (or credit) is flowing, everything is right in the world. Commercial espionage ranks above national security intelligence with this administration.
Clinton on the other hand did all he could to destroy our military system and the supporting spare parts and munitions supplies. On top of that he was continuously exporting sensitive military technology to those who were sworn to use it against us. The only way that this week's attack was able to stay hidden from our intelligence gathering system was through the use of spread spectrum telephony that the Clinton administration exported to Syria. This was done above the objections of those whose job was to block such transfers when the technology was a threat to US security. The fiber optics based radar system that Iraq now has (that has enabled them to shoot down 2 of our aircraft) was also exported to China by the Clinton administration over the same type of objections.
The political answer is simple. If a man will not defend this country, he is not fit to be president. If he does not take a strong stand for our national sovereignty and our right to do anything necessary to defend our citizens, he does not deserve to be president. If appointing political friends is more important to a man than placing strong qualified leadership in key positions, he does not deserve to be president.
If our president does not have the backbone displayed by our founding fathers, he will not be able to pull this nation's foreign policy out of the rubble under which it is buried at this time.
I like the things that I have heard from President Bush during the past couple of days. Contrary to the opinions expressed in the liberal media, he has been right on target. The thing that I fear is that he will not have the backbone to follow through on them. Will he act on the things he has said, or is it just what the people needed to hear? May God grant him the grace to act firmly and swiftly.
That action must be followed by a national commitment to rebuild our security systems and to launch out into new technologies to replace those compromised by years of weak foreign policy and traitorous acts in our federal government.
For this to be done properly will require a groundswell of grassroots activism on the part of the people. Our representatives will not make the hard choices to direct the monies away from their pork barrel projects. The only solution they will see is to cancel the tax cut, and they will probably want an increase on top of that. You must get educated on the issues and make your voice heard to ensure that this does not happen.
