According to one of the preeminent experts in the field of firearms, Dr. Edward Ezell, a key characteristic of a true assault weapon is that it must have the capability of "full automatic fire." Similarly, the U.S. Defense Department defines real assault weapons as "selective-fire weapons" -- meaning that these guns can fire either automatically or semi-automatically.
Anti-gun pundits in recent years have managed to define "assault weapons" as semi-automatic firearms that only externally resemble a military firearm. Dr. Edward Ezell notes that true assault weapons "were designed to produce roughly aimed bursts of full automatic fire" -- something which a semi-automatic firearm does not do.
Knives more deadly:
According to the FBI, people have a much greater chance of being killed by a knife or a blunt object than by any kind of rifle, including an "assault rifle." In Chicago, the chance is 67 times greater. That is, a person is 67 times more likely to be stabbed or beaten to death in Chicago than to be murdered by an "assault rifle."
Cops' own guns more deadly:
So-called assault weapons are not menacing police officers nationwide. The FBI reports show that before the 1994 ban on semi-automatic "assault weapons," no more than three officers were killed in any one year by such guns. In contrast, police officers were more than three times as likely to be killed by their own guns than by "assault weapons."
It would seem one can't have it both ways. If Congress wants to ban weapons that are dangerous to police, then it should begin by pushing for a ban on police officers' own weapons, since these guns kill far more often than "assault weapons." The same is true with knives and blunt objects. These instruments kill policemen more often than semi-automatic "assault weapons."
Sarah Brady's own figures show that so-called assault weapons are not the criminal's "weapon of choice."
A study published by Handgun Control, Inc. in November of 1995 shows that the overwhelming majority of guns used to murder police officers are not "assault weapons." The irony is that HCI uses a very inflated definition of "assault weapon" and still can not demonstrate that they are used in over 50% of the crimes.
During the 1980s, retired U.S. Army Gen. Albion Knight, Jr. was involved in a unique project. He and others were asked by members of the Reagan administration to draft a list of goals that would be the framework of a Marxist president if one were to be elected to lead the United States.
"We concluded that a Marxist and / or communist president, if he ever came to power, would focus on the transfer of national sovereignty at every opportunity to international organizations. He or she would also weaken the armed forces physically, mentally and spiritually. The 'dumbing down' of our public school educational system would also accelerate."
"Furthermore, we decided that a Marxist president would assist all or most of America's enemies -- Russia, China, Cuba, radical Islam, North Korea and others. He would disregard the Constitution at every opportunity and rule by decree, meaning executive orders would earmark such an administration. Bogus arms control agreements, buying-off or intimidating Congress by stealing the FBI files of its members, controlling the media and trying to stop all alternative media would also be major goals."
In addressing the two terms in office of President Bill Clinton, Gen. Knight is resolute.
"What has Clinton done in this regard? He has hit every one of the above actions and more. I have a file over six inches thick with articles describing these actions. The salami slices add up to a message of treason. Sex and perjury were the wrong impeachment offenses. It should have been on his treachery and failure to live up to his oath of office.
"Clinton has helped Marxists and terrorists and their 'world revolution' at every opportunity. Cultural Marxism is also a key Clinton goal. He has been giving us a bad example that it is all right to lie, cheat, steal, threaten and even rape women if it is done in high office. There is a steady movement toward a Gestapo-like control over the people. There is today in the U.S. a total lack of any sense of nation and its protection as required by his oath of office.
Furthermore, Clinton has been selling and giving our nuclear and other high technology secrets to communist China and giving Russia the money to re-arm at U.S. taxpayers' expense."

On Friday, Reuter's Moscow bureau reported that Russia's Foreign Ministry had praised the foreign policy of Vice-President and Democratic Party presidential candidate Al Gore Friday, saying his objectives tended to coincide with those of the Kremlin.
Does that mean that a Gore administration would be less cooperative with the Chinese? Have the Russians outbid the Chinese this campaign season? Do we have missile technology that they need? Maybe that endorsement came as a partial payment for the State Department laptop full of highly classified information that is "missing".
Now we are told that there are actually three laptops missing from the Federal Department of State. The facts that are coming to the public concerning them, however, are as sloppy as most of the current administration.
We are assured that only one of the laptops has classified information on it, but they do not keep an inventory of computers at the State Dept, so they don't know who checked them out or when they disappeared.
Question: If there is no inventory, how do they know they are missing and how do they know what was not on them?
Answer: It doesn't matter what this administration says. You can't trust it.
"Instead of debating how much more money taxpayers should funnel into the Department of Education, or what combination of carrots and sticks might tempt government schools out of their lethargy, Congress should simply end federal involvement in education and return the department's budget to the American people in the form of a tax cut. ... [T]he department of education was born crying, lived complaining, and has been nothing if not disappointing. Congress should lay it to rest." --Darcy A. Olsen, noting this week's 20th anniversary of the U.S. Department of Education
"Life by polling is a recipe for decay and decline." --Cal Thomas
"Facts are beautiful only to those with little to fear from them. For law-breakers and tyrants, they are unpleasant and irksome, a nuisance to be quashed at any price." --Chris Weinkopf
"It is the everlasting disgrace of the Clinton Administration that it has chosen to betray America's heritage as a beacon of freedom and, instead, to act as the ally and agent of a police state in retrieving one of its prisoners." --David Horowitz
"When you have a gutless Congress, a lawless president can do pretty much what he chooses."--Lyn Nofziger
"Like a snail crossing a sidewalk, the Clinton Administration leaves a lengthening trail of slime" --George Will
"On key issues, Bush sounds more like a centrist democrat than Gore. ... On a series of major issues, Bush has embraced the exact position taken by the [Democratic Leadership Council] and its congressional allies, while Gore has either kept his distance or actively opposed the DLC stance. .. [While] disagreements between Bush and an organization so intimately linked to the Clinton administration are hardly surprising...it's more revealing that Bush and the DLC agree so much."--Ron Brownstein
"...[R]unning as a Republican on Democrats' rhetoric is hardly an example of high principles." --Thomas Sowell
"President Clinton appears to have most of the U.S. government beavering away on behalf of Fidel Castro's agenda these days. But a few officials have been excused from Elian duty for another task: They are trying to persuade Russia to let the U.S. defend itself against the growing threat of ballistic-missile attack by the likes of North Korea or Iraq or some similar danger in the future. It is a mystery, best left to those who will parse the Clinton presidency in years to come, why the U.S. has put itself in the preposterous position of seeking Moscow's permission to build a defense against a rogue nation or an accidental missile launch. This ought to be a national security priority, not a matter for diplomatic negotiation. The administration has already wasted seven precious years in refusing to pursue a defense against this growing threat. With less than a year remaining of the Clinton era, the essential task now is to make sure the next president's hands aren't tied for the important job ahead." --Wall Street Journal
"We shouldn't let our familiarity with Bill Clinton stop us from appreciating the depth and range of his accomplishments as president." --Clintonista Dale Bumpers, in a letter soliciting donations for The Great Prevaricator's Presidential Library
TCN- Actually, the more familiar we become with Clinton, the better we understand the reasons for the damage he has done this nation and its government. See "What If We Elect A Marxist President" above.
The bumper sticker "If Guns Are Outlawed Only Outlaws Will Have Guns" needs amending to read "If Guns Are Outlawed Only Outlaws And The Government Will Have Guns." Of course, that would be redundant.
At a White House conference on teenagers, First Lady Hillary spoke of the pivotal period between childhood and responsible adulthood. Or as Bill calls it, "my presidency."
