"What if your 15-year-old daughter Megan," the reporter asked, "was pregnant and said she wasn't ready to have the baby?"
McCain replied that he would talk it over with Megan and his wife but would leave his daughter to decide for herself.
"This would be a private decision that we could share within our family and not with anyone else," McCain said. "I would encourage her to know that the baby would be brought up in a warm and loving family and the final decision would be made by Megan with our advice and counsel."
Later, on a bus ride from Manchester to Nashua this afternoon, McCain defended his record on abortion and said he would not mince his words any more finely.
McCain said that he believes abortion is "taking a human life," adding that he thinks the law should require a minor to get parental consent before seeking an abortion.
Does Senator McCain really think that "taking a human life" is justified by parental consent? Is a skin-head youth justified in the drive-by shooting of Jewish children if his parents are also anti-Semitic?
Chief adviser Mike Murphy interjected during McCain's comments to say, "We're trying as hard as we can, without neon paint on the side of the bus today … to clarify that what the senator said was a minor-age daughter would be a family decision. That means that the parents would handle it."
That makes it clear Mr Murphy. Thank you. The decision to commit murder should be left up to adults. If the adult deems murder to be appropriate, so be it.
Senator McCain blasted Alan Keyes saying he didn't need a lecture from him on the value of life. We beg to differ with you Senator. Someone needs to lecture you, because you certainly have no firm view on an issue that is very clear to anyone with a firm moral foundation. God is the Creator of life and whether you are 6, 16 or 60 you have no right to terminate innocent human life.
"I've already taught my daughter that it's not her choice."
"It would be a very difficult situation for our family," he said. "We would gather together and offer her love and support, we would urge her to bring it to term and we would assure her that we would support her in helping to raise that child in a loving family atmosphere."
The inconsistencies come from lack of a basic set of moral values. The "pro-life" position of Bush and McCain is not based on moral convictions, but on political correctness. The political platform (yes there is one) of the Republican party is "pro-life" therefore the men wanting to be that party's nominee are taking a "pro-life" stance, even if it isn't what they really believe.
The same inconsistencies don't appear in Keyes or Forbes. Why not? The answer is obvious. Their position on moral issues is not derived from a party platform or poll. It comes from a lifetime of moral experience. They did not memorize it for the campaign, they learned it from raising children, watching cause and effect, and from their Christian experience.
Both Bush and McCain are amoralists. When they speak on moral issues, they are not speaking from their beliefs, they are speaking only what they think you want to hear. They are neither pro-life nor pro-death, they are simply pro-President of the United States. Neither of them deserve a chance at the office.
We have seen the damage a man with no moral convictions can do to the presidency and to the nation. We at TCN say, NO MORE!
"There is absolutely no question in my mind that whether Roe v. Wade
is preserved or scrapped depends on what happens in the next
presidential race. I appointed two members to the Supreme Court. In
all probability, the next president will appoint more." --Bill Clinton
stumping for Al Gore.
Samuel was only 21 weeks in his mother's womb when he underwent corrective micro-surgery for spina bifida. It was during surgery that he reached from the incision in her womb, and grasped the finger of his surgeon, Dr. Joseph Bruner. Was he saying "Thank you" to the kind and gentle hand or was it the natural grasping action of an infant? Only little Samuel's Creator knows for sure, but the camera was there to document the occasion.
After years of unsuccessful attempts at having a child, Julie and Alex Armas, finally had a little one on the way. But in July they received word that he had a spinal condition that would probably lead to severe birth defects and early death. Julie searched for help and found it at Vanderbilt University in Nashville.
Though considered high risk, the surgery was successful and little Samuel arrived December second, about a month before he was expected! He weighed 5 lbs., 11 ounces, and was 20.5 inches long, and was so healthy that he went go home with his parents a few days later.
Proponents of the pro-death position would have killed Samuel, excusing themselves by saying that he would have caused an unreasonable burden on the mother and society. What do you think Samuel will say?
