A Republican poll shows 25 percent of voters favoring Texas Gov. George W. Bush for president "prefer Democrats on the issues by a significant margin," the Associated Press reports. It is strange that he would try to pass himself off as a Republican, when the voters clearly say that he is a Democrat on the issues. I guess the polls predict that a Republican will win this time.
That Bush is a closet Dem was one of the findings in a survey that showed that Democrats were favored, 44 percent to 31 percent, when potential voters were asked which party cares more about them. The poll was shown recently to Republican representatives trying to maintain their party's 10-seat majority in the House.
What does this mean to the voters? It means that the pollsters are getting ready to make sure that their puppets stay true to liberal agendas. It means abortion, gay rights and socialism will be side-stepped as political issues in favor of better health care, a growing economy and world security will be the "key" issues again. We certainly can't win unless the people think we are concerned about them!
What happened to The Contract With America? Where did all of those Republicans go that made great promises on what they were going to do? We sent them to the House and haven't heard from them since! They broke their contract. They should be out of a job.
Republicans, who had trailed Democrats in congressional "generic" polls for more than a year, now lead by 5 percentage points, according to a Yankelovich survey done for CNN and Time.
"If the election for Congress in November 2000 were held today, do you think you would vote for the Democratic candidate in your district or for the Republican candidate?" the poll asked.
Fifty-one percent of respondents said they would vote Republican, while 46 percent said they would vote Democratic. Three percent did not know or did not respond. The Jan. 6 survey is reported in the latest issue of National Journal.

The Union Leader says John McCain is running in the wrong primary: "As we said when we endorsed Republican Steve Forbes for President, U.S. Sen. John McCain would be a better nominee of the Democratic Party. His endorsement this weekend by the ultra-liberal Boston Globe is further proof that McCain is running in the wrong race. The Globe likes McCain for the same reasons New Hampshire conservatives and Republicans in general ought to oppose him. He wants big government to take over even more of our decisions." (1/18)
China does pose at least an "indirect" threat to the Panama Canal and the Clinton administration knew it all along, a newly declassified U.S. military document shows.
Judicial Watch, a public-interest government watchdog group based in Washington, forced the military document to be released by the Clinton administration through the Freedom of Information Act.
The document, an "Intelligence Assessment" prepared by the U.S. Southern Command Joint Intelligence Center, is heavily blacked out and stamped with an original classification of "Top Secret//X1." The assessment was prepared in October 1999, two months prior to the official turn over of the Panama Canal. According to the U.S. military assessment, the Chinese firm that acquired control of the canal, "Hutchison Whampoa," does indeed represent a threat.
"Hutchison's containerized shipping facilities in the Panama Canal, as well as the Bahamas, could provide a conduit for illegal shipments of technology or prohibited items from the west to the PRC, or facilitate the movement of arms and other prohibited items into the Americas," concluded the U.S. military intelligence report.
"The fact that the Clinton White House elected to release this assessment after the transfer of the Panama Canal is very revealing," stated Judicial Watch Chairman Larry Klayman. "It confirms why the Clinton administration wanted to keep this data secret."
The U.S. military report noted that Beijing's direct ties to the owner of Hutchison Whampoa are a threat against the weak Panamanian economy.

Hong Kong billionaire Li Ka-Shing, owner of the company that now exercises de facto control over the operation of the Panama Canal, is a "minister' of the Communist Chinese government, according to newly released documents from the Commerce Department.
The documents, obtained through the Freedom of Information Act by Judicial Watch, a Washington-based public interest legal watchdog group, also reveal a previously unreported 1994 meeting in Hong Kong between Li Ka-Shing and then-Commerce Secretary Ron Brown, along with several figures directly linked to President Clinton's Asian campaign finance scandals.
The meeting with Li, who is currently considered a "threat" by the U.S. Defense Department, was part of a "Presidential Business Development" trade trip to Asia and was personally approved by President Clinton.
According to the Commerce Department's "Event Scenario," the meeting in Hong Kong included Li Ka-Shing, Secretary Brown and Ginger Lew from the Commerce Department, Maria Haley from the Export Import Bank, John Bryson, president of SCE Corp. and Edwin Lupberger, chairman of Entergy Corp. Referring to the massive Hutchison-Whampoa company, which today operates both ends of the Panama Canal -- the Pacific port of Balboa and the Atlantic port of Cristobal -- the Commerce documentation notes that Brown was to "request Hutchison's view of the commercial environment in China."
According to the White House, Li Ka-Shing is not a member of the Chinese government. White House Press Secretary Joe Lockhart stated such accusations were "silly," and that "this is the kind of thing you see around here from time to time."
In December 1999, White House National Security Council spokesman David Leavy stated, "Responsibility for operation of the canal following the transfer will rest solely with the government of Panama. The company in question (Hutchison Whampoa) will have no control over, or role in, the operation of the canal."
Yet, documents forced from the Clinton administration contradict the White House statements, and instead show that the billionaire is very close to Beijing.
One such document, a secret dossier of Li Ka-Shing, was prepared for the White House by an unnamed "Intelligence Agency" and was included in a package of dossiers on the Chinese communist leadership, including President Jiang Zemin. The intelligence dossiers were supplied to the 1994 trade trip attendees such as SCE President Bryson and Entergy chairman Lupberger.
According to the dossier, Li has "significant economic and political ties to China," including investments in a "power station, a highway construction project and a large contribution to Shantou University."
Owner of the huge shipping firm Hutchison Whampoa Ltd. and the giant Far East investment firm Cheong Kong Holdings, Li Ka-shing has had legal troubles and a known criminal record. According to the White House dossier, Li was "found guilty of insider trading after a widely publicized trial in 1984; he was not punished by the courts."
The White House intelligence dossier states that Li is also a "member of the boards of directors of the China International Trust and Investment Corporation (CITIC)." A 1997 Rand Corporation report sponsored by the Clinton administration states that CITIC is an "investment concern under China's governmental State Council."
According to a recent biography titled "Li Ka-Shing," the billionaire teamed with two leading members of the Asian "Triad" organized crime families -- Robert Kwok and Henry Fok -- to form the China International Trust Investment Company.
In addition, the 1994 Brown meeting with Li Ka-Shing came only days after the Commerce Secretary met with the Chinese army's Gen. Shen Roujun, vice commander of COSTIND. The documents show that "COSTIND Vice Minister Shen Roujun" met with Commerce Secretary Ron Brown and Loral Aerospace chairman Bernard Schwartz in late August 1994 just prior to the Hong Kong meeting with Li Ka-Shing.
According to the Cox report, COSTIND Gen. Shen actively sought help from the U.S. Commerce Department in obtaining employment for his son, Shen Jun, at Loral. The Cox report noted that Shen later succeeded in obtaining both a sensitive position for his son and sensitive nose cone technology for the Chinese army from the Hughes Corporation.
Ironically, Li Ka-Shing has been compared to the reclusive American billionaire Howard Hughes. William Triplett, co-author of "Red Dragon Rising", noted that the Hong Kong billionaire often works closely with the Chinese army intelligence services and with the Triad gangs in order to serve Beijing.
"Li Ka-Shing is to the Chinese army intelligence HQ what Howard Hughes was for the CIA," stated Mr. Triplett.
"The leadership in Beijing openly states that there are 'good patriotic' Triads," stated Ed Timperlake, Asian law enforcement analyst and "Red Dragon" co-author. "The merging of the Triads, financiers like Li Ka-Shing, and the leadership in Beijing is a nasty law enforcement problem. It is almost state-sponsored gangsterism."
( From various articles, WorldNetDaily )
WorldNetDaily supplied the same documents -- which were obtained from the Clinton/Gore administration by a Freedom of Information Act request -- to the Bush campaign, the McCain campaign and the Bradley campaign. To date, none have expressed an interest in commenting on the contents of the documents.
"I am not surprised," stated Forbes. "No one has put the heat on them. The mainstream media does not cover this topic because it's beneath their dignity."
The Clinton/Gore administration is leaving an historic legacy that the next president will have to work hard to avoid, said Forbes. When shown an official Democratic Party photograph of President Clinton, Hillary Clinton and Ng Lapseng, a Macau millionaire whose main business is a hostess service of brothels in Asia, Forbes reacted instantly: "We won't turn the Lincoln bedroom into a brothel," he pledged, clearly poking fun at Clinton.
[EDITOR'S NOTE: This is an interesting relationship of the Clintons' in light of the administration's recent moves to modify the definition of prostitution to allow international sex trafficking more freedom!]
Documents provided by a lawsuit in federal court show that many of the activities associated with the "Chinagate" scandal occurred inside the Clinton Commerce Department. In addition, the Senate Commerce Committee, chaired by Sen. John McCain, R.-Ariz., has oversight responsibility for the government agency. What would a President Forbes do with the current Commerce Department?
"I would like to close the place down," said Forbes. "I'd take the weather service and privatize it, but that's about it."
