Price Controls - The Right Way

This came in our e-mail:

[snip]
"Last year on April 30,1999, a gas out was staged across Canada and the U.S. to bring the price of gas down, and it worked. It's time to do something about it again.

This time, lets make it for three days instead of just one. The oil cartel decided to slow production to drive up gasoline prices. Lets see how many Canadian\American people we can get to ban together for a three day period in April, NOT TO BUY ANY GASOLINE, during those three days. LET'S HAVE A GAS OUT.

Do not buy any gasoline from APRIL 7, 2000, THROUGH APRIL 9, 2000. Buy what you need before the dates listed above, or after, but try not to buy any during the GAS OUT. If you want to help, just send this to everyone you know and ask them to do the same.

We brought the prices down once before, and we can do it again! Come on North America lets stand together.

WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!."

This is the way free enterprise controls prices. It works. Support it.

Partial Birth Abortion Poll

A current poll at Vote.com shows that 86% of the 40,000 respondents supported an end to partial birth abortions. If our Senators can't reflect that figure and over-ride a presidential veto, just who are they representing?

The answer is both sad and simple. Abortion is a big business generating billions of dollars annually, much of that getting into campaign coffers and senatorial pockets of one kind or another. Money talks. Your senator knows that if he can't get your vote on principles, he can buy someone else's vote without them.

A little research goes a long way in finding the basis of the independent-from-constituents problem. Stop in at http://www.opensecrets.org/home/index.asp and check out where your representatives campaign funds are coming from. It is surprising how small a percentage of the war chest is coming from "back home."

Bush Trying to Out Liberal the Liberals

Texas Gov. George W. Bush yesterday charged into Vice President Al Gore's back yard and announced his first environmental initiative: to quicken the cleanup and redevelopment of polluted industrial sites known as brownfields.

Mr. Bush also challenged his presidential rival's positions outlined in his environmental manifesto, "Earth in the Balance," which criticizes the internal-combustion engine as a major polluter.

"I think the vice president is probably going to have to explain what he meant by some of the things in his book, to share with us the philosophy behind some of the standards in the book," Mr. Bush said. It was Mr. Bush's first foray into an issue normally dominated by Mr. Gore, the self-proclaimed political father of the environmental movement. However, Republicans are hoping to use Mr. Gore's book and his own words to focus on some of his more controversial ideas.

Mr. Bush outlined his six-point plan to speed brownfield cleanups at the site of a former steel plant in Aliquippa, Pa., which has been cleaned up and redeveloped into a $120 million gypsum plant that will open in May.

Mr. Bush said that under his plan, state and local governments would work with private industry to develop new environmental standards, rather than battling them in the courtroom.

"The government cannot sue its way to clean air and clean water," Mr. Bush said.

Can Waco Happen Again?

The short answer is, "Yes". Why? Because all that the government learned from Waco is how to better hide the truth and stall for time until the evidence against it is corrupted. Why do I bring it up?

Indianapolis Baptist Temple could be the next Waco, and it could happen soon. The IRS plans to seize the church property in the next few days.

The problem is that IBT is an unregistered church. They are not incorporated. They have no employees. They pay no taxes. In other words, the government has no handle with which to manipulate and control them. We all know how this administration feels about power and control.

The IRS claims that IBT owes over $5,000,000 in back withholding taxes (after penalties, interest, adjusting for inflation, devaluing of the yen and multiplying by 10. If you have ever dealt with the IRS you understand that one.) This is even though IBT has not had any employees during the period in question, not a single one. They have volunteers that work around the church. Those volunteers do receive monetary gifts from the church, but nearly all have been audited (though the IRS says the church has not been targeted) and none have been found delinquent. In fact, those who have claimed the gifts from the church as income have been refunded the taxes they paid on that money and told they did not need to pay taxes on the money!

Militia groups from several states have mobilized and intend to block the seizure. A colonel in the Michigan militia has promised in the strongest terms that IBT will not be another Waco. Will the ATF attempt a Waco-type action on this one? This is an inner-city location where they cannot hide their actions and where they have been promised a meeting with people ready for them.

You may not hear about this in the news. The Indianapolis paper has run only a few articles, mostly concerning a rally in March that drew people from several states, but all of those articles have been cleaned from the paper's on-line archives. You can still find high school basketball scores from 1998, but all articles mentioning IBT have been removed... I wonder who applied pressure to get that done.

Stay tuned.
