What are the Motives?

"...[W]hat are the motives of government in seeking information on who has a gun, and what is its manufacturer's registration number? Those who want to make the case for the registration of all weapons should demonstrate, if they can, how such records would have prevented numerable crimes, or identified numerable criminals who got away. ..But some people's attitude toward them has got to trace to thinking of them as weapons against government tyranny." --William F. Buckley

Governmental Excesses

"The total U.S. government haul in taxes -- income, corporate, capital gains, gasoline, excise taxes, telecommunications, payroll, and so on -- amounts to about 20% of the nation's gross domestic product (GDP), more than any time since 1944,"
[Washington Post]

Take a Hike!

Leave it to those who know -- firsthand -- the horrors of tyranny, to stand up to the United States Attorney General. After threats and intimidation, Elian Gonzalez's great uncle Lazaro Gonzalez told Janet Reno to take a hike! "We will not turn this child over -- not in Opa-locka, not in any 'locka'." Columnist Wes Pruden observes, "Whatever else she may be, Janet Reno is consistent. She 'saves' children wholesale, as she did at Waco, and she 'saves' them retail, as she is determined to do with Elian Gonzalez."
[The Federalist]

Due Process Requires a Court Order Now

An 11th Circuit Court of Appeals judge in Miami issued a decree temporarily blocking the return of Elian to Cuba, and ordered due process through the American legal system for the child.

Compared to What?

"In 1993, the last year that David Dinkins was mayor of New York, there were 212 intentional police shootings of civilians (many of them African-Americans). This compares to only 73 shootings by the Giuliani police force in the past year. In 1991, during Dinkins' reign, there were 41 fatalities resulting from police shootings. In 1999, under Giuliani there were only 11. Yet at no time during Dinkins' reign, did the socially conscious demand that the Justice Department step in to end the epidemic of 'police brutality' and/or incompetence of the Dinkins administration. There has been no mention of this hypocrisy in the press. Might this be because Dinkins is a Democrat, a leftist and black?" --David Horowitz

Fat Cat Bureaucrats

"Since 1980, the average federal non-military employee has received $5 in additional wages and benefits (adjusted for inflation) for every $1 increase the average private-sector employee received," according to Pete DuPont. State and local government employees have received $3 to every $1. In 1994, federal employees' annual wages and benefits were 70% higher than employees in the private sector: $60,478 to $35,523.

Policy Statements Issued

The American Academy of Pediatrics passed a policy statement demanding that handguns be banned, that trigger locks and other "safety" features be mandated until handguns have been confiscated, and that the Consumer Product Safety Commission be allowed to regulate handguns -- the Massachusetts model. The doctors' care for children is touching but fades quickly with a little research. Far more children die from medical malpractice than from accidents involving handguns.

TCN has passed a policy statement demanding that all pediatricians that believe it is more important to be politically correct than to be a good doctor, be banned from practice until they can be rounded up for a mass public hanging.

On the Budget

"The national budget must be balanced. The public debt must be reduced; the arrogance of the authorities must be moderated and controlled. Payments to foreign governments must be reduced, if the nation doesn't want to go bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance." --Marcus Tullius Cicero, 55 B.C.

On "Conservative" G.W. Bush

"[George W.] Bush's tax cut is all but forgotten, as it's back to 'compassionate conservatism' in the form of a $5 billion reading initiative. The governor is pro-life but won't talk about it, and he criticizes the NRA for telling the truth about Clinton getting political mileage from well-publicized killings. While George W. may be the media's idea of a conservative -- most in the movement view him skeptically. If Bush is interested in inclusion, he should reach out for a running mate with his right hand (an Alan Keyes, a Bill Bennett or a J.C. Watts), as his father did with Dan Quayle." --Don Feder

From Al Bore - The Vice Prevaricator

"Don't let anybody ever forget what the contrast has been these last seven years compared to the Bush-Quayle years." --Al Gore

How can we forget !?!

Here's an Idea

"(W)e are all being asked by this Administration to believe that Mr. Gonzalez (Elian's father) is his own man. How about this: Let's see to it that Mr. Gonzalez, his wife and two children are allowed to live alone for two weeks in Miami with Elian's immediate relatives. Send the crowds and cameras and Cuban capos away. Let's see if after two unimpeded weeks in a Miami neighborhood Elian's father still wants to take him back to that school in Cuba."
[Wall Street Journal ]

Overheard

It's the first time Elian's dad has ever been to the United States. In fact, he said he was so unfamiliar with this place, he's now thinking of running for Senator from New York.
