On Thursday doctors performed an angiogram on Dr. Hyles. The procedure revealed three arteries in the heart were clogged 80 - 90% with two others that are clogged to a lesser degree. In addition, the aortic valve is 60% blocked. Late that evening Dr. Hyles was airlifted to the University of Chicago Hospital for surgery to replace 4 to 5 arteries and to replace the aortic valve. The surgery carries a 15 - 20% risk factor. A balloon pump has been installed to assist his heart until the corrective surgery can be performed.
The doctors and family have made the decision to wait until Monday for the surgery to allow time for more fluid to be removed from the lungs.
As of Friday evening Dr Hyles is alert and his mind is sharp. He does still have severe pains in his back. His family has confidence in the present doctors and staff and feel delaying the surgery until Monday is wise. Dr Hyles is still listed as being in critical condition.
Thank you for your prayers. Please continue to pray.
We have come to understand that no news is good news in the struggle of Indianapolis Baptist Temple. It means that the feds haven't knocked the doors down yet and the revival continues! The official IBT web site runs about 3 to 5 days behind in posting the activities at the church and the postings have little to do with the crisis, so we can only assume that there is no news in that regard.
Anyone who has hosted a week-long meeting though knows the expense of such activity and will thoroughly understand the following plea since IBT has now been in revival for close to three months.

One can hardly pick up the papers today without reading about challenges to our Constitution and the fact that so many seem to want to tear our country down. As for me, I cannot but thank God that I am an American and I am thoroughly proud of it! I have no use for the Teddy Kennedy's, the Janet Reno's and the organizations such as the ACLU, who try to tear apart everything this great country was built upon. I am thankful for the heritage that was given to me. I am also thankful for the men who sacrificed and fought in the various wars so that we can enjoy the freedoms we have today.
We ought to want to raise our children in an atmosphere that will foster and develop a true love and appreciation for their American heritage. At home and at school we should teach them what made America great!
By the same token, I am also proud of my Baptist heritage. I was raised a Catholic by the way, and was not saved until the age of 22. The same pride that we desire to instill in our children about America we should do, and more so about our Baptist heritage.
J. M. Carroll when researching material for his lectures on church history, which eventually led to his famous booklet THE TRAIL OF BLOOD, stated, "He found much church history--most of it seemed to be about Catholics and Protestants. The history of Baptists, he discovered, was written in blood. They were the hated people of the Dark Ages. Their preachers and people were put into prison and untold numbers were put to death. The world has never seen anything to compare with the suffering, the persecutions, heaped upon Baptists by the Catholic Hierarchy during the Dark Ages. The Pope was the world's dictator. This is why the Anabaptists before the Reformation, called the Pope "The Anti-Christ." Sir Isaac Newton wrote "The Baptists are the only body of known Christians that have never symbolized with Rome." I think of the times of terrible persecution when, despite the fact that fifty million Baptists had already died a martyrs death, millions continued to stand for Christ. "It was during this period that along one single European highway, thirty miles distance, stakes were set up every few feet along this highway, the tops of the stakes sharpened, and on the top of each stake was placed a gory head of a martyred Baptist." I don't know about you, but I cannot ready stories such as this and not thank God for their convictions. We do indeed have a rich heritage.
It ought to be of the utmost importance that we are careful to instill in our children a love and a loyalty to their Baptist heritage. The reason is because I believe we are raising up a second and third generation of young people who are not Baptist by convictions. It is one thing to funnel knowledge into a young man's heart, but it is quite another thing to reach his heart to the point where that knowledge becomes a deep-rooted conviction. We ought to want our children to love and serve God. We should want them to be thankful for what God has done for them, but we should also want to go a step further and have them realize that their religious heritage, just as much as their national heritage, did not come at a cheap price; and that they will someday be responsible for passing down our rich heritage to their children.
